At Oasis Church we believe children are a gift from God, and we are very excited that you are investigating child dedication.

Child dedication is a public commitment you make before God, your church, and your family. The dedication service provides you, the parent(s), an opportunity to publicly express your desire to lead and spiritually nurture your child in cooperation with the Holy Spirit, so your child will develop a desire to love God and love others.

Listed below are frequently asked questions about child dedication. Take time to review them to find answers to any questions you may have. For unanswered questions, feel free to contact our church office at (719) 647-0800.
1. What is a child dedication?
Many Christian churches practice baby/child dedication. instead of infant baptism. A child dedication is a ceremony in which believing parents, and sometimes entire families, make a commitment before the Lord and the church to submit a child to God’s will and to raise that child according to God’s Word.
2. How old should a baby be for a dedication?
Child dedication is geared toward children birth to 2 years of age. However, we understand that as parents come to faith when their children are older they may still want to dedicate their kids. If this is the case just let us know.
3. Why is this different than water baptism?
At Oasis we believe that water baptism is meant for a person who is old enough to believe in God and has the mental ability to comprehend and publicly profess their faith in Jesus Christ.
4. Is it required by God to dedicate your children?
No. Although the Bible records a couple baby/child dedications taking place (i.e. 1 Sammuel 1), it is not required or commanded by God.
5. Are there any requirements to dedicate my child at Oasis Church?
No. All are welcome to come dedicate their children with us. We simply ask that the parents and family understand the reasons why we do this and are prepared to make the commitments to help their child(s) grow in their faith.
6. Is there a fee for Child Dedications?
No. We are thrilled to partner with your family in raising your children in a Godly home. We do ask for some basic information for the ceremony and so we can give you a gift to you to remind you of this day.
7. When is the dedication and how long does it last?
The ceremony will only last about 5 minutes during our second service (10:45am). We will ask you to come forward with any other families that are dedication their children. Then our pastors and children’s director will speak for a few minutes and ask you simple yes or no questions confirming that you will commit to raising your children in a Godly way. Then we pray over you and your children.
8. Who can stand with me up front, during the dedication?
We ask that only your immediate family stand up front with you. But we encourage you to bring your entire family and friends to watch and share this moment with you.
