Prayer & fasting
WHEN: January 18 - February 7
WHY: To put God first in 2021

Join us for a 21-Day fast as we start the new year of 2021.

It’s about you and God!  Yes, I’m challenging you to fast!  At the beginning of every year I challenge everyone to fast.  This year’s fast begins January 18th and ends February 7th at sundown.

Fasting is a spiritual discipline mentioned throughout the Bible.  Ezra fasted to help with financial troubles.  Samuel fasted for national revival.  Elijah fasted for emotional strengthening.  Jesus fasted for his ministry.  Paul fasted for a major life decision.  Fasting is simply practicing a biblical discipline in order to experience more of God’s presence in our life.

Here’s an example of fasting from Daniel 10:2-3

“At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks.  I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.”  And then in verse 12, God responded to Daniel’s commitment to fast: “Do not be afraid, Daniel.  Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them.”

Here we find Daniel fasting—abstaining from certain foods and drink and lotions—for 21 days.  And because Daniel sacrificed things that were important to him, God responded to his fast.

Choose something to fast from and something to fast for during this 21-day period.

  • Only fruits and vegetables

  • Liquid only: shakes and smoothies

  • Skip one meal every day

  • No sugar or caffeine

  • Quit smoking or chewing tobacco

  • Stop using Facebook or watching the news

Be creative and sacrifice something that’s important to you for 21 days, like Daniel, and see how God honors your fast.
